Petra Collins is an art director that I have been following for a while now and she never fails to amaze me. It was very hard to choose just one picture but this is what I chose. The lighting is this is beautiful, with the spotlight on the lady in red. I love the contrast and the shadows as well. Compositon wise, the picture is well balanced with the help of the lamp on the right. Petra's aim is to empower women and encourage girls to embrace themselves. Thus, it is evident that the spotlight in this picture is to spread that message
@brahmino
Simone Bramante is one person I wish I had known about sooner. I do not follow a lot of professionals on Instagram but this assignment helped me find lots of inspirational photographers. Just look at this. I love how the two subjects are immersed in grass, just appreciating the scenery. The color compositions and everything make this so beautiful.
assignment 2: 10 best liked photos ( 5 by professional, 5 by me )
@refty
I have been following this guy for years now. Although he only has over 3K followers, I still consider him to be a professional. He's local so it's even more inspiring to me. I chose this one, named "The Runaway" because of its' simplicity. I love the negative space and it almost seems like the girl is running on nothing. There is a really nice contrast between the black and white. Also, the reflection of light on her hands and the shadows complete this picture.
@bychristianlanza
Christian Lanza has a following of under 6K but his photos prove that he is underrated. A while ago he was recruited by one of my favorite artists, Amine' and this is a piece created by him. I know this is an edit but it's so well fused together that is seems to be whole. I just love everything in this. The colors, composition, angles, just everything. This is a masterpiece. It took me a while to realize the hands were a different image, that's just how well it is organized.
@abu88
Akihito Nagata shoots series of very intricate blac and white pictures. This particular one stood out to me because of it's symmety. I absolutely love the effect the chairs bring and compostion is very well balanced. When it comes to black and white pictures, I love the contrast. The background in this is pitch black and that creates depth and mystery.
My 5 Best Pictures
This is one of my all time favorites. It was taken in the Dubai aquarium and I'm glad I looked behind. A gigantic stingray loomed over the glass and I had to be quick enough to capture it as close to the center of the frame as I could. I like how it seems as though the people have no idea what is above them. The light at the end of the tunnel also adds contrast to this image making it stand out even more. At first glance I thought that my mom's hand at the bottom left corner ruined the image but the more I think about it, it's an additional element that brings more to the picture. Thanks mom.

This was shot just outside TGI Fridays. I had to do a lot of cropping to this because I took it quite far and there was someone on the right just outside. What I love about this picture are the silhouettes. They each tell a different story. We can see a couple on the right sat next to each other, a man right in the center all by himself and a lady to the left. Even though there are lots of elements that catch the eye, personally the man stands out the most. This is because his silhouette is more crisp than the oters and also due to the fact that hes positioned in the middle. I also do believe the position of his hand adds more to the picture. Another thing I love about this is the sharp red hues all around. It reminds me of Hell's Kitchen from Daredevil.
The image you are looking at is from Hamilton Gardens in New Zealand. This was the day I reunited with some of my school friends and we decided to go explore this place. Basically there are different gardens and spaces all influenced by different cultures so each place is unique and refreshing. I love the composition of this picture. The pink hues compliment the green well and the dark space in the middle adds more depth to this. The plant and the wall on the right are also well balanced by my friend in the hoodie. If you manage to browse my Instagram you would notice that she is in a couple other pictures too.
I took this one very recently, during the semester break, in my home country Male', Maldives. My cousins and I were waiting for our other cousin to go collect his passport so we waited outside the building. I wasn't planning to take a picture but these tourists caught my attention. They were wearing clothes that really stood out and that is very refreshing to see in a place like Male', where fashion is just bland. Whenever I take a picture my aim is to make elements centered so as you can see the windows are in positioned evenly in the center. The asymettry of the structured building on the top right makes the picture more eye catching. I also like the reflection of light on the road and building.
Split, Croatia is a beautiful place and the expressions of these tourists sure do justify that. Their eyes are mostly directed upwards and that creates a better atmosphere within this picture. I also love the textures on the wall and ground and the curved edges surely add more dimension. If you have noticed already, most of my pictures consist of people. For some reason, to me, I just really love focusing on the people and luring out their identity the best I can, because every image has it's own story and a story isn't complete without the person that has experienced it.
what kind of photographer would you be?
I would most probably be a street photographer, without a doubt. I've always been fascinated by people's lifestyles and thus, capturing them in their purest form through candid shots are like no other. I love how you can really grasp the purity of human nature through this type of photography. Sure, for some it may just be a picture of a random person or random people going about their day but that's the beauty of it all. People are just so distracted that most forget to appreciate what's infront of them.
